JMC Presents the Tommy Emmanuel Masterclass

We are extremely excited to be presenting a masterclass performance and Q&A with one of Australia's greatest talents, Tommy Emmanuel.

It’s difficult to summarise Tommy Emmanuel. He is an iconic Australian who's been touring the world, playing solo guitar, and selling out theatres for more than 20 years. From Nashville to Sydney, to Tokyo and London and anywhere else you can think of. Tommy has used his masterful and unique guitar style to entertain crowds of all shapes and sizes.

Emmanuel is a four-time winner of Australia’s Best Guitarist Award, two-time Grammy Nominee, nine-time ARIA Nominee and two-time ARIA winner. He has released 28 studio albums, spanning over 40 years and was a pioneer of bringing his style of rock-acoustic guitar to the Australian mainstream. These are just a small number of accolades that Emmanuel has received in his illustrious career as one of the world’s most talented and entertaining guitar players.

Tommy’s musicianship and artistry are so vast and so deep, they cannot be measured. He can literally play anything, but also understands ‘performing’ as deeply as he understands playing the guitar. At the age of six, Tommy was touring regional Australia with his family band and by 30, he was a rock n’ roll lead guitarist, burning up stadiums in Europe with NZ/Aussie band Dragon. At 44, he became one of five people ever named a 'Certified Guitar Player' by his idol, Nashville music legend, Chet Atkins.

This special night will be hosted by keyboardist and JMC Lecturer, Sam McNally, who first played with Tommy back in 1980, and then in Tommy’s own bands from 1987 to 1991. The night will consist of a very special and intimate performance from Tommy, after which Sam will lead a series of questions before opening it up to the audience.

This will be an amazing opportunity for our students and other guests in attendance to be up close and personal with such a legend of the industry and pick the brain of a man who has done it all in the music world. Tommy is a true example of someone who has made his dream his career with a life of performing his music. We are always so excited to team up with our friends from the industry to put on these amazing events for our students, and with a man like Tommy Emmanuel, this one is sure to be extra special.
