Creative Headstart

What if you could begin your journey into higher education while still completing year 11 and 12?

For creative students, sometimes waiting to get started is the hardest part.

JMC: Creative Headstart gives eligible high school students the opportunity to study one or two JMC units from a JMC degree, alongside their school studies!

This means that you get to immerse yourself in our creative community and get a genuine start on your future...all before you finish year 12.  

It all started with one student who asked “why wait?”

Meet Grace Alexandra. Grace is an emerging First Nations singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in South East Queensland. Currently in Year 11 at Caboolture State High School, Grace wanted to keep progressing at school, but sieze the opportunity to challenge herself creatively and begin studying at a higher level. 

This had us thinking, “why should she have to wait?”  

Working closely with Caboolture State High School, we started exploring how a student like Grace could begin tertiary creative study without stepping away from school. The answer became JMC: Creative Headstart.

For Grace, that means more time invested in her future as a musician, developing her craft, and learning from industry professionals in an environment built to support her.  

"This program represents an exciting opportunity to reimagine how students transition into higher education. By working closely with schools, we can provide capable students with early access to tertiary learning experiences while ensuring they remain supported throughout their secondary education journey.  We are delighted to welcome Grace as the first student participating in this initiative and are excited to learn from the JMC: Creative Headstart as we explore future pathways that can increase access, confidence, and readiness for higher education."

What are we offering? 

JMC: Creative Headstart creates a supported pathway for students to access higher education study across:   

  • Music
  • Acting
  • Film and TV Production
  • Audio Engineering and Sound Production
  • Entertainment Business Management
The kind of headstart that goes well beyond the classroom.  

Those final years of school are full of questions about well...what happens next? 

We’re here to make that next step a little easier. If we as higher education providers have the opportunity to alleviate some of the looming pressures that year 11 and 12 can bring, why shouldn't we? 

Providing aspiring creatives, the chance to start following their passion early and allow a pathway for students to transition into higher education is something we are incredibly proud to do.

JMC: Creative Headstart is a chance to turn the thing you already love doing into something much more, to meet people who take creativity as seriously as you do, and to start building the skills that could shape your future career.  

Grace is just the start. 

We’re incredibly excited to welcome our first Creative Headstart student to JMC and even more excited about where the program could go next. Because when you know what you love, why should you have to wait to start doing more of it? 

JMC: Creative Headstart is now open for expressions of interest.
