The word itself carries expectation, vulnerability, and perhaps the sense that you’re about to be seen in a way that feels both thrilling and exposing. That feeling can be enough to halt you in your tracks before you’ve even begun.
We’re here to let you know auditions don’t have to feel that way!
On Wednesday 29th April, join us at JMC Academy’s Brisbane campus for an Acting Audition Masterclass designed to take the pressure off, soften the edges, and meet you exactly where you are. Running from 6pm–8pm, this free session is less about performance and more about preparation. We’re focussed on possibility, not perfection!
At the centre of it all is Anthony Gooley, a working actor and JMC Acting lecturer whose approach leans into clarity, craft, and care. With credits (and acclaim including a GLUG Award, several Sydney Theatre Award wins and nominations, plus Matilda Award, Curtin Call Award and Time Out Award nominations!) spanning stage and screen, and a teaching style grounded in real-world experience, Anthony understands both sides of the audition room. He knows what it takes to step into the spotlight, but more importantly, he knows how to help others feel ready to do the same.
This masterclass has been designed with intention. It’s a space to ask questions you might’ve been sitting on, to unpack the unknowns that often make auditions feel intimidating, and to build a foundational understanding of what the process actually looks like at JMC. You’ll explore how to choose material that feels right for you, how to prepare it in a way that feels authentic, and how to walk into an audition with a clearer sense of self.
There’s no expectation to arrive polished. In fact, it’s the opposite!
The session invites you to show up curious, open, and maybe even a little unsure. Because that’s where the real work begins.
It’s not the first time JMC has created space like this. Back in December, our Brisbane campus hosted a Music Theatre Voice Masterclass led by Natasha Veselinovic, offering prospective students a similar opportunity to connect with leading industry professionals in a setting that prioritised support over scrutiny. The incredible response was a reminder that when the environment is right, confidence has room to grow!
This upcoming Acting Audition Masterclass continues that thread. It’s part of a broader commitment to making the first step into creative education feel less like a leap and more like a guided introduction. If you’ve been considering auditioning for a while, or the idea has only just begun to take shape, this is a chance to explore it without pressure. To learn, to listen, and to get a feel for what’s ahead!
