At the heart of every trimester; there's that tricky point where things really start to ramp up. Assignments are due, and you're still figuring out how to balance work, social life, and creative projects. It's a hard tightrope to walk, and often you end up forgetting to take care of yourself in favour of all these other things.
So, we created Wellness Week.
What is it?
It can be anything from petting zoo's on campus, to free breakfast and groceries, coffees on us, movie nights, yoga, trivia, mindfulness, or karaoke. Basically, it's a daily support system available on campus that's designed to make your day a little lighter and easier.
Outside of the action packed (but very relaxing, we promise) schedule, there's you. So, to carry you through the rest of the trimester, here are a few tips and tricks to take care of you.
Remember: self-care will look different to everyone, and that's completely okay! Take what resonates with you and leave the rest.
Celebrate little wins!
Check in and try to notice the small or big things that are actually going right, even if it doesn't feel like it. Maybe that assignment you were worried about got in on time after all. Maybe you made it to that class you nearly skipped or had a good conversation with someone that turned your day around. Maybe you're just here, still going, even on the days that felt harder than others.
It's easy to notice what's going wrong, but the small wins count too, and they add more than you'd think.
Connect
Things can feel a lot bigger in your head than they are in reality. Talking to someone about what's going on, the good and the bad, can make it feel more manageable. That doesn't have to mean a big, serious conversation either. Sometimes it's as simple as chatting to a classmate between sessions, catching up with a friend, or even a quick exchange with your local barista while you wait for your coffee. Small, everyday moments of connection add up, and they're often easier to reach than we give them credit.
JMC Academy wants every student to feel supported, and reaching out, in whatever way feels right for you, is always a good place to start. Take what you need, and if you or a friend is struggling or just need to talk, JMC has resources to help, and student support systems available. We're here to help!
Disconnect
Touch grass, go for a walk, and put the phone down for a moment. Disconnecting can be simple: stepping away from your screen while the kettle boils, making your bed in the morning, sitting still before you leave the house or reading a chapter before bed. Each of these small pauses gives your mind some quiet, and together they can make the chaos feel a lot more manageable.
Get involved this week! There are plenty of activities across campuses and little acts of self to indulge in. But, don’t stop after this week! Self-care is something we all could use more of, try continuing these little moments for yourself every day! Check out your student hub to see what's happening on your campus!
