As SXSW (aka. South by Southwest) lays down roots in its new home Down Under, JMC is thrilled to announce that we’ve teamed up with the iconic arts and innovation festival as an official venue partner for SXSW® Sydney 2023!
SXSW Sydney is perhaps the world’s most innovative cultural event, blending art with technology and bringing together the greatest innovators in modern history. Its Australian launch in Sydney next month marks a great milestone for Australia’s creative and technology sectors, as it positions us as a new mecca for innovative thought and creative expression. The presenters and performers at SXSW Sydney are unparalleled in their skill and experience. This year, notable guests include writer and producer Charlie Brooker, Coachella Festival CEO Paul Tollett, visionary Slack Co-Founder Cal Henderson, futurist and AI expert Amy Webb and recently announced GRAMMY-winning rapper, Chance The Rapper.
So, what does this mean for JMC? From October 16-20 our JMC Sydney campus will play host to the revered SXSW Sydney Conference, joining the leagues of only 4 venue partners around Sydney City (alongside the ICC, Powerhouse and UTS - we’re like the Ninja Turtles of SXSW Sydney). The Conference is the centre of SXSW Sydney and this year’s event will include hundreds of panels, presentations, workshops and mentor sessions across a number of ‘conference tracks’, winding throughout the SXSW Sydney precinct.
JMC Sydney will be filling the big (but snug!) boots of the Conference sessions for Entertainment and Entertainment Media Technology, including Gaming, Screen and Music. Obviously, this is our area of expertise (and we have the technology to prove it!), so hosting this leg of the conference in our beautiful spaces is nothing less than a natural fit!
On top of all this, we’re excited to be offering our students some wonderful opportunities to get involved with and attend SXSW Sydney in the ways that best fit their passions and study areas. Although we can’t say much just yet, what we will say to our Syd students is to keep your eyes peeled over the upcoming weeks and get involved with as many Campus events as you can - you never know where an opportunity might be hiding! 👀
It’s pretty safe to say that the idea of having some of the most skilled and influential industry players glide through our Sydney doorstep has got us radiating excitement.
