JMC Academy Sydney is super excited to announce that we will be the only educational institution in Australia to be hosting 1 of only 3 Rolling Stones sculptures as part of the Stones’ International Exhibit.
The sculpture stands 2 meters tall and is arguably the most iconic symbol in rock 'n' roll history; The Rolling Stones tongue. The figure will take a 3-month seat in the front window of the Harris Street building, attracting visitors from around the world.
The Rolling Stones exhibit was opened in London before moving onto Chicago, New York and now Sydney. The Exhibit, also known as Exhibitionism, tells the incredible story of one of the most legendary rock ‘n’ roll bands in history, from their early days living together in a tiny flat, to headlining the biggest stages in the world.
There is no doubt the Rolling Stones have played one of the biggest roles in music history as far as influencing the world goes. This pack of lads that initially turned heads for their long hair and new-age rock star fashion were a vital part of the iconic era of music dubbed the ‘British Invasion’. Rock music would not be what it is today without the swagger from Jagger and that decade of music that changed the world.
Many JMC students, past and present, have drawn endless inspiration from this British rock juggernaut. Countless covers of Paint it Black and Satisfaction have been blasted throughout the recording studios and on stage in the Auditorium by our Music Performance students while our Entertainment Business students can’t get enough of dissecting their incredible careers.
The exhibit will open at the ICC in Sydney, just a 10-minute walk from JMC Academy Sydney, on Saturday the 17th of November and will close on Sunday the 3rd of February. Exhibitionism features over 500 Stones’ items with 50 years of Stones fashion, 190 original artworks, vintage instruments, interactive sound mixing desks and recording studio, a screening cinema with exclusive content, all culminating in a 3D concert finale.
JMC invites the Stones fans to get their photo snapped with the 1.9m tall sculpture, which is visible from the Harris St windows (you can’t miss it!). There's also a competition running - upload a photo with the sculpture to Instagram and #thestonesatJMC to go into the running to win the ultimate Rolling Stones merch pack.
We are super proud here at JMC to have been asked to host this iconic statue in our Sydney campus for the next three months and to have such an exclusive opportunity of having a piece of the rock ‘n’ roll industry sitting in our front window for the world to enjoy.
