JMC Academy graduate Damien Schneider, was featured in The Age, discussing his role on "Happy Feet 2", and the iPad app "Inside the World of Dinosaurs', narrated by Stephen Fry, which won the Best Educational App for 2012.
The article explains how Schneider chose JMC Academy for his Bachelor of Creative Arts (3D Animation). "I liked the idea of the smaller class sizes" he says. "Also, at JMC there was the scholarship program.
There is more to animation than drawing, you don't need to be a great artist to land a role, though being able to draw is handy, Mr Schneider says.
"It's a broad job description. I do a lot of character driven stuff, setting up the characters, and doing the character animation. A lot of people of my course came from strictly technical backgrounds, and a lot came from an artistic setting.
"I was one of the few who had done programming and visual design previously, so I usually ended up with the roles that are a cross between technical and the creative. This is what got me into the job working on Happy Feet 2; a bridge between the technical and creative sides."
Working with a small team of JMC Academy graduates, one of Schneider's current projects includes an Android and iPad treasure hunt app for Museums Victoria.
