As we face an unprecedented challenge, I would like to re-affirm that JMC is continuously reviewing its operations with regards to COVID-19 and the precautionary measures in place to ensure the health and safety of our community.

As of today, there are no confirmed cases at JMC Academy and therefore in accordance with the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and the Australian Government, JMC remains open.

Notwithstanding, we understand the heightened concern and uncertainty amongst both staff and students and therefore our team has been working very hard behind the scenes to plan for a variety of contingencies. I am working very closely with our academic staff and support teams to best transition current programs to a remote teaching mode while ensuring a consistent level of quality in your education is maintained.

In the meantime, any student who feels uncomfortable travelling to JMC will not be disadvantaged or penalised. We do, however, request that you advise your lecturer or administration of your absence so we can endeavour to provide you with online resources and additional material, where possible until a transition to online is complete.

Additionally, I would like to acknowledge the anxieties being caused by this pandemic and the strain it can potentially have on your mental health. Please understand that we do not take this lightly and want to take all actions in our power to make you feel as comfortable as possible. In support of this, we still have our on-campus counsellor available for consultation and are also currently looking at transitioning this to an online service in the very near future. While there are also a number of good resources online, I would like to reference Beyond Blue’s article on ‘Looking after your mental health during the coronavirus outbreak’ where they state that in such a challenging time it is important to:
  • Try and maintain perspective
  • Find a healthy balance in relation to media coverage
  • Access good quality information
  • Try to maintain a practical and calm approach
  • Try not to make assumptions

Our number one priority remains the health and safety of our students and staff and while we remain open, we will continue with our preventative cleans, promotion of good hygiene and social distancing measures.

We appreciate that this is a rapidly developing situation and will provide more updates as they become available.

Sincerely,

George Markakis

Chief Executive Officer, JMC Academy
