At JMC, we are all about supporting young, local talent. So naturally, when we found out the QUBE Effect was giving 24 emerging local artists the opportunity to take part in an unbelievable career-making program, we had no choice but to jump on board! The winning artists will have the tick of approval from both a public vote, and an expert industry panel with judges including Paul Piticco of Secret Sounds, artist Megan Washington and Simon Wright, GOMA, just to name a few.

The amazing prize pack includes a private recording session with JMC’s Audio Engineering Head of Department and ARIA award winner, Lachlan Goold. Lachlan has been a key figure in the industry for a large number of years and has worked with countless JMC students to help them master their craft. We are so proud to have Lachlan heading up our Brisbane Audio department and are excited to see him as part of the QUBE Effect to help these new young talents progress in their careers.

“I’m really excited to be a mentor for the QUBE effect. This is a great initiative by the Brisbane City Council, to assist emerging local artists reach the next step of their careers. I’ll endeavour to give these artists some useful advice from my experiences in the recording industry, and some tales from my wider involvement in the music industry.” Lachlan [Magoo] Goold, Head of Audio Engineering and Sound Production, JMC Academy and mentor on QUBE Effect.

All 24 finalists will have their own music video professionally filmed at JMC Academy by JMC staff, students and Alumni alongside renowned Videographer, Rachel Johnston, and will have opportunities to perform at various venues including Brisbane City Hall, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and at the QLD Art Gallery’s UP LATE series (GOMA).

QUBE will also be giving the 24 emerging artists the opportunity to compete for the chance to perform at one of Australia’s biggest festivals; SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS!!! It sends shivers down our spine even saying it… It’s a great feeling being able to help give this incredible opportunity for young talent to be able rub shoulders with some of the world’s biggest musical talents and establish themselves at this incredibly iconic Aussie event!

JMC Academy is very proud to be the official Education Partner for the QUBE Effect 2019 and have so many of our amazing crew involved in what is going to be a life changing experience for the chosen winners. We are looking forward to watching the emerging talent and their journey throughout the entire program.
