JMC student wins Best International Singer and Performer at Vina Del Mar

Melbourne JMC Academy music student Alison Elgueta-Rubio performed at the TheViña del Mar International Song Festival this year, winning Best International Singer and Performer with a song co- written with current JMC student Shawnee Brennan.

We caught up with Alison before the event to see how she got the opportunity which you can read here. After the win however, we chatted to her again to find out all about her time in Chile!

How did you find the event?

I found the festival amazing. Everything was very well planed and all the crew were wonderful and very kind, making the whole trip a lot easier, as I was really nervous and anxious before even arriving in Chile.

What was your favourite thing about the experience?

My favourite was being able to perform my song (Move on) in front of 30,000 people in the Quinta Vergara Amphitheatre and then find out that there were over 50 million people watching it all over the world! Also being able too meet the other musicians was something out of this world; we all got along like one big family which was a massive plus!!

How did you feel when you found out you won?

When they called out my name I was in total shock, I honestly did not expect it so when it all happened I was over the moon and I can not believe the I won ‘Best International Singer and Performer’. For me to be given this award means so much because I’m being recognized for what I love do to.

What is the most important thing you feel you have taken away from this experience?

The most important thing that I will take away from this is that dreams and goals really do come true if you work for it!! Also being able to do this festival with Shawnee Brennan was incredible, she was always looking out me while we where there making sure I had everything, that I kept myself in a positive mind set because things did getting stressful at times and always making sure I was vocally ready. I think both us will remember this trip for the rest of our lives.

Watch Alion's performance below from 10:30. A Huge congratulations to both Alison and Shawnee.
