ENTECH has been the leading industry event for entertainment technology and live events for many years.

This year, the decision to co-locate with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Conference and Exhibition brought exponential numbers to both shows. This co-location highlights the relevance and importance of networking in the Creative Industries.

This year, as testament to quality of education and training JMC Academy brings to the audio, film and television industries, we were asked to be ENTECH’s Education partner. As education partner, JMC Academy was represented in academic staff and alumni lead workshop sessions.

JMC Academy’s Head of Audio Engineering and Sound Production Department, Glenn Ferguson, delivered an interactive workshop to a seminar room full of enthusiasts, on recording, mixing and general set up and management of the studio (including the home-based set-up).

Producer, Engineer, Multi-Instrumentalist, Singer/Songwriter and JMC Academy Alumni Michael Carpenter, has been making records that cross most genres of contemporary music over the last 2 decades. His abilities as a bona-fide multi-instrumentalist, combined with his experience as an engineer and producer, means that he can fill most needs that people would have in a recording situation. He presented a workshop on fundamentals and use of equalization, whilst highlighting the application of sound engineering to film, television, radio, theatre, corporate functions, promotions and of course in music.

Finally, Engineer, Production Manager and JMC Academy Alumni Gareth Stuckey has become a well known name in the Australian music industry. Formally the Production Manager of ‘Day On The Green’ festival, Gareth is well accomplished in overseeing more than a hundred shows around the country, dealing with artists as diverse as Jimmy Barnes, Lionel Ritchie, Chris Isaak and Crosby Stills and Nash. Gareth presented the ultimate guide to staging the perfect show, including how to identify and avoid the most common live sound disasters
