Music and Me

I have always been passionate about music. I was only in 6th grade when I attended my first gig and even then, part of me knew that I wanted to be part of that world.

After exploring HEAPS of options online, I settled on JMC Academy’s Audio degree because the course outline seemed really constructive and logical; it’s a practical course mentored by respected people from the industry; the institution has good academic reputation and offers up to date skillset, trends and facilities. Furthermore, they are embodied with a CREATIVE VIBE – which serves as an avenue for creative freedom and space to grow and learn from and with other people.

Oh, the places you’ll go!

I had been living in Melbourne for a year and decided to stay as I had grown to love the city’s diversity and rich support for the arts and music industries. Plus, there’s an abundant supply of high-quality coffee! I’ve still got tons to explore and discover about Melbourne as it is definitely a stunner and city full of wonder.

I started O-Week in May, which was a two-day online program. Though it was heart wrenching not to have my first orientation on campus, I do understand that we had to comply with the restrictions due to the current pandemic. We got all the information and instructions about how to join the online sessions. And overall, it was well-organised and informative. They even sent us a surprise welcome kit to our homes. How awesome is that!

The first week of classes, made me feel nervous about few things – like how classes would run, who will be our mentors, how would they relate to the students, etc. But just like any feel-good song, everything just felt right. The mentors and teachers were really cool and they all have superb backgrounds in the industry. The classes themselves are informative despite being done in an online platform.

It also felt great to be reassured that the mentors are always willing to help and guide us throughout the course especially for an international student like me.

Overall it has been a fun and comforting few weeks – hooray for a great start! I’m anticipating more ‘firsts’ with my JMC family and I hope I can see everyone soon ‘live in action!’
