Finding out exactly what it takes to become a multi platinum engineer isn’t always an easy thing to do, Dave Aron flew in from Los Angeles recently to speak to students at JMC Academy in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
Dave started his career in Memphis after moving from his native New Jersey, he was thrown into the studio working with U2 on one of their most iconic albums.

Dave recently attended JMC academy and gave attendee’s years of experience and knowledge as he spoke about techniques far ranging from metal drum kit recording to processors and microphones for recording hip hop’s most iconic vocalist of all time, his close friend, Snoop Dogg.
Dave spoke at detail about working with compression on vocals and specifically the Waves C4 multi-band compressor. The ability to use a multiband compressor to control the dynamics of Snoop’s vocals, or indeed any vocalist he has worked with recently, was on show, especially the ability to reduce some of the mid range “mud” that comes through just about on every vocalists recording.
