CURRICULUM

JMC's Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services (Stage Management) will equip you with the core skills of a stage manager, and the relevant exposure to technical roles meeting the diverse needs of the contemporary theatre production industry. The fifteen (15) units of competency have been carefully chosen to reflect the dynamic and changing Stage Management Industry, and to ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge and experience to navigate successful careers in the industry.  Our holistic assessment strategy allows each student to apply the skills and knowledge across a range of projects and theatre productions.

Tier 1 offers students a thorough grounding in the underpinning knowledge and practical application of the Theatre Production work place, with a range of theory classes, practical activities in theatre and screen productions. The learning structure allows the student to participate in simulated workplace activities in the roles of Technical Operator, Production Assistant and Assistant Stage Manager. This allows for the development of skills and knowledge in areas such as; theatre production documentation, lighting design implementation, theatre history, technical theory, risk management, stage management, running a rehearsal room, working in a production environment with professional directors, designers and actors, culminating in practical experience on theatre productions.

Tier 2 builds on the skills and knowledge from Tier 1 and extends these into a range of practical applications, allowing the student to demonstrate competency in a range of supervisory roles within a theatrical context, including Stage Manager and Technical Supervisor. Students will work alongside industry professionals such as Directors, Lighting Designers, Choreographers, Actors, Production Managers, Stage Managers and Technical Managers to collaborate, plan, supervise, implement and realise all elements of a theatrical production. This tier introduces the discipline of managing and organising film locations and shoots, resulting in allowing the student to demonstrate their skills within this media.

The main thing was making links with my tutors. I was already working as an assistant stage manager prior to AFTT, so the course also solidified and developed my skills.
