Design (Visual Communication) Workshop
Available to students in year 10 and above, and those who have finished high school, immerse yourself in the creative world of Design with our holiday Design (Visual Communication) workshops offering hands-on experience and creative guidance.
Attend a single workshop for $20, or enjoy a full day with two workshops and lunch for $30.
Our Design Workshops will run on two days:
Saturday 20 September
Saturday 11 October
9:30am - 12:30pm
Get hands-on with design and storytelling in this vibrant, tactile zine-making workshop. Students will explore visual communication techniques through collage, mark-making, and layout design.
Highlights:
- What’s a Zine?: Learn about the history and cultural power of zines.
- Collage & Illustration: Experiment with handmade and digital textures.
- Collaborative Storytelling: Work with peers to develop bold visual narratives.
- Layout & Composition: Use Adobe tools to bring your zine to life on the page.
- Portfolio-Ready Output: Walk away with a finished zine to showcase your style.
This workshop is ideal for aspiring designers, illustrators, or storytellers. No design software experience required, just bring your ideas and creativity.
Year 12 students will leave this workshop with a piece of work that can be added to their portfolio for submission into JMC’s Design courses.
1:30pm - 4:30pm
Turn your creative work into a polished, professional portfolio in this focused design session. Students will receive expert guidance on how to present their art, photography, or design work for course applications or creative jobs.
Highlights:
- Portfolio Planning: Learn what makes a great creative portfolio.
- Digital Templates: Access tools and templates to build your layout.
- Curating Your Work: Get help selecting your strongest pieces.
- Visual Storytelling: Discover how to communicate your creative identity.
- Constructive Feedback: Receive tailored advice on how to improve.
Best suited for students interested in design, visual arts, or media. Bring your school or personal creative work, physical or digital.
Year 12 students will leave this workshop with a piece of work that can be added to their portfolio for submission into JMC’s Design courses.
We request that attendees bring portfolio items to campus (VCD, Media, or Visual Arts), either in digital format (USB) or as physical works.
