So you’ve been toying with the idea. Scrolling through courses. Watching reel after reel of studio tours. And then it hits you: JMC Academy's August Open Day is coming up — August 16th for Brisbane and Sydney, and August 23rd for Melbourne! It’s time to see what the hype is actually about.

We’re talking live performances. Alumni and industry experts on stage. Film screenings, hands-on creative workshops, one-to-one chats, good coffee and even better vibes. It’s the kind of day that opens doors and sets the tone for your creative future.

♈ Aries (March 21 – April 19):
Zero chill, all action

You’ve already RSVP’d. Twice. Aries hits the ground running: first into the campus, first to the signup sheets, and first to ask “Can I try this camera?” They’re attending three workshops booked back-to-back, and they’re practically hosting the student Q&A. Open Day for Aries? It’s a full-contact sport.

♉ Taurus (April 20 – May 20):
Sensory immersion, please.

You’ll find Taurus basking in the sunniest patch of campus, iced latte in hand, lowkey vibing to the live music floating through the hallways. They’re here for the feel… warm lights in the studio, velvet textures in the theatre seats, a synth pad that hits just right. They take their time deciding, but once they fall for a course, they’re committed.

♊ Gemini (May 21 – June 20):
Talking. Socialising... Enrolling?

Gemini’s on their fifth conversation and they’ve only made it ten metres past the sign-in desk. They’ll ask the Entertainment Business lecturer about emerging platforms, then pivot to the Animation booth to talk storyboarding for TikTok. They’re curious, charismatic, and possibly considering four degrees at once. Classic.

♋ Cancer (June 21 – July 22):
Plotting their future, crying happy tears.

Cancer isn’t here to browse, they’re here to belong. They’ll well up hearing about the alumni success stories. They’ll get attached to the campus dog (can relate). They’ll imagine their future self sitting in the animation labs with a drawing tablet and a dream. Honestly? It’s kind of beautiful.

♌ Leo (July 23 – August 22):
Already has a highlight reel.

Leo didn’t just come to Open Day. They arrived. There’s a main character energy about them as they glide from performance space to camera test to open mic. They’re asking questions on the mic with perfect projection and probably filming an outfit check for their story under the gorgeous lighting of a JMC live film set. Someone cast them already.

♍ Virgo (August 23 – September 22):
Built an Excel sheet for the day.

Virgo shows up with a clipboard, a checklist, and three different coloured highlighters. They’ve planned their day down to the minute (because there’s not a second to spare!). They're asking about software access, postgrad pathways, and the exact structure of trimester one assessments. They’re efficient, prepared, and absolutely nailing it.

♎ Libra (September 23 – October 22):
Looking for a course and a vibe.

Libra wants options. They’re weighing up Acting, Visual Communication, Music, maybe even all three. But if there’s a room with good natural light and a creatively dressed student ambassador, they’re staying a while. They’ll walk away with three tote bags, a new insta mutual, and possibly a new life plan.

♏ Scorpio (October 23 – November 21):
Mysteriously invested...

Scorpio says they’re “just here to check it out,” but they’re already dreaming of their graduate project and mentally picking their mentor. They’re the ones asking the deepest questions in the smallest voice. You’ll find them lurking around the post-production suite, lowkey absorbing everything. Don’t underestimate them.

♐ Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21):
Manifesting a global career.

Sag is already pitching themselves to the industry pro they met at the JMC Panel. They’re charmed by the freedom, the tech, the possibility of movement that JMC offers. Catch them hopping between the music showcase, the VR studio and the free coffee stand… and already planning their first big project.

♑ Capricorn (December 22 – January 19):
Here on a mission.

Capricorn is here for business. They've read the student handbook. Twice. They're comparing industry outcomes across degrees and asking the alumni speaker exactly how they landed that dream job in sound design. Practical, focused, and lowkey inspired.

♒ Aquarius (January 20 – February 18):
Looking for the future...

Aquarius is deep in a JMC computer lab, talking about creative disruption with someone from the Design faculty. They’re fascinated by the weird stuff, the new stuff, the not-even-in-the-brochure stuff. Their brain is ten steps ahead, probably inventing a new genre of storytelling or music as we speak.

♓ Pisces (February 19 – March 20):
Having a dream sequence moment

Pisces is living for the sound bath of Open Day: music in the air, lights down low, cinematic energy everywhere. They’ll wander into the animation studio and forget to leave. They'll sketch something in the margin of their info pack. They'll get a bit teary during the student film. It’s giving main character. It’s giving “this is where I’m meant to be.”

JMC Academy’s August Open Day is more than a tour: it’s a portal. A permission slip. A chance to ask big questions and see what answers come back (sometimes in the form of a soundtrack, sometimes in a lighting demo, sometimes from a former student who’s now scoring films for Netflix).
