Congratulations are in order - JMC Design student, Sam Wixon, has been named a finalist in the 2025 AGDA Student Awards!
Sam has been recognised in the Student Brand & Identity category for his project, SUSHISQUAD. Sam describes SUSHISQUAD as “an exploration into what fun and bold sushi branding could look like.”
“I wanted to create a brand that felt fresh, expressive, and social — more like the energy of street art. From this idea, the concept quickly evolved into this bold, playful brand inspired by the intersection of Japanese food culture and Melbourne’s vibrant street art scene.”
The result is a striking, character-driven identity that reimagines sushi branding through colour, energy, and youth culture.
“The brand was targeted at people who enjoy casual dining experiences and gravitate towards brands with bold and colourful visual identities,” Sam says. “I wanted to create something that felt fun and approachable for kids and teens, while also appealing to 20–30-year-olds seeking trendy places to eat with their friends.”

A Well-Earned Nod from AGDA
