Q: What does Australia’s longest running Creative Industries institution have in common with one of the country’s most loved music festivals?

A: A partnership four years strong, built to give emerging creatives opportunities that shape their futures.

For the fourth year running, JMC is proud to partner with Laneway Festival, a stage where creativity, culture and community collide. This collaboration gives JMC students the chance to be part of the Laneway story as it unfolds. It’s about stepping into the heart of a festival that has launched careers and connected thousands of fans across the country.

With acts like Chappell Roan, Role Model and Wolf Alice just some of the incredible acts on this year’s lineup, it’s set to be another unforgettable year.

A Partnership That Keeps Evolving

Since its 2023 festival run, JMC’s collaboration with Laneway has been more than access behind the curtain. It’s been a pathway for students to gain hands-on experience in live music, event management, content creation and broadcast, live sound and more. It’s the chance to be part of moments that can’t be replicated in a classroom alone, opportunities that only JMC students get to experience at this scale.

Across Brisbane (moving to the Gold Coast in 2026), Melbourne and Sydney, JMC students have supported the production, promotion and capture of the festival in action. From setting up artist spaces to documenting performances to working on stage crews, it’s a chance to see how a major touring festival comes to life.

Where Students Meet the Stage

Ask any JMC student who’s worked Laneway and you’ll hear the same thing: it’s electric.

  • Entertainment Business Management students help coordinate crews, liaise with artist teams and support activations.
  • Audio students mix live sound.
  • Film and TV students capture and broadcast festival moments.
  • Animation and Design students design screen motion graphics
  • Music students even take the stage themselves, like Ruby Cannon, Worm Girlz and Maybe in May on past Laneway lineups.

Laneway has always been about spotlighting the new, the next, the fiercely original. That same spirit is at the heart of JMC, nurturing emerging talent with the skills, confidence and connections to shape their own pathways.

What’s It All 4?

It’s always for the students.

Four years of collaboration. Four times the opportunities to learn, connect and grow. Four music projects launched on the Laneway stage.

JMC’s purpose is simple: We educate and inspire creative minds to shape their careers and our world. By partnering with a cultural touchstone like Laneway Festival, students can road-test their skills in real-world, world-class conditions while building connections that last well beyond the final set.

Looking Ahead

Laneway Festival 2026 is set to be another landmark year, and JMC students will once again be right at the centre of it.
