JMC Academy is proud to announce that academic staff from across our campuses have been selected to present at this year’s Australian Screen Production, Education & Research Association (ASPERA) Conference, taking place at the University of Wollongong from 25–27 November 2025.
This is a strong recognition of JMC’s leadership in screen education and practice-led research. Associate Dean – Scholarship, Dr Damian Gascoigne, praised the achievement, noting:
“It’s an excellent showing for us. It’s especially encouraging to see Brisbane FTV’s Senior Lecturer, Olivia Gane, as a new practice scholar in the mix.”
The accepted abstracts span a diverse range of topics that reflect the depth of JMC’s academic and creative research:
- Dr Damian Gascoigne (Sydney, Associate Dean Scholarship): Horse Feathers – exploring the limits of continuity in animation using generative AI.
- Peter George (Melbourne, FTV HOD): The transformative impact of artificial intelligence on filmmaking and screen production workflows.
- Mark Overett (Brisbane, FTV HOD): From Malaysia, with Love… applying cross-cultural collaboration techniques in the Australian screen classroom.
- Panel (Mark Overett, Emma Hudson, Dr Darren Paul Fisher – Bond University, and Angela Blake – Bus Stop Films): One-Size-Fits-None: Teaching Film & TV in the Neurodiverse Classroom.
- Olivia Gane (Brisbane, FTV Acting Senior Lecturer): Pedagogies of Experimentation – the role of active industry engagement in enhancing creative learning outcomes.
From the intersection of artificial intelligence and screen production to inclusive teaching practices and cross-cultural collaboration, these projects highlight JMC’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries while addressing the needs of today’s learners.
