We know better than anyone that creative journeys rarely start on schedule. That’s why we’ve built a clear, intentional pathway for students who start a little later. One that says you’re welcome here, and you won’t be left to catch up alone!
Introducing JMC’s Refresher Program.
Rather than asking you to defer, or worse, catch up alone, JMC offers a structured, supported pathway that bridges the gap between Weeks 1–3 and brings you into Week 4 feeling prepared, confident and connected.
Our trimesters begin earlier than many traditional universities. It’s part of what allows students to get hands-on, industry-focused sooner. But it also means some students are still weighing up offers, navigating systems, or simply finding their footing while classes are already underway.
Missing Orientation or the first couple of weeks can feel academically and socially isolating. That sense of having “missed the boat” is real, and it’s one of the biggest reasons students sometimes choose to walk away altogether.
The Refresher Program exists to stop that spiral before it starts!
So How Does It Work?
The Refresher Program combines two essential things: clarity and care.
Students are guided through how JMC actually works (the systems, the assessments, and the expectations) in a way that makes sense for creative learners. At the same time, they reconnect with the heart of their chosen discipline, revisiting the key ideas and skills they need for their first major assessment.
This isn’t about adding more lectures to an already full schedule. It’s about high-impact, practical sessions that help students understand what matters most right now, and how to move forward with intention.
Crucially, the program is led by the same academic teams who teach the regular classes. That means the catch-up is aligned, relevant and grounded in what’s actually happening in the studio, rehearsal room or lab. Students don’t just hear what they missed: They leave with momentum, not just notes.
Tailored Support For Every Creative Discipline
Because creative courses aren’t one-size-fits-all, neither is our Refresher Program.
Depending on your course, support might look like:
- One-on-one check-ins and ensemble-building for Acting and Music Theatre students
- Studio-based catch-ups and DAW confidence sessions for Audio students
- Targeted theory and ear-training refreshers for Music students
- Dedicated production catch-ups in Film & TV studios
- Structured group-project integration for Design students
- Software, pipeline and workflow refreshers for Animation and Games

At many institutions, Orientation is a one-off event. Miss it, and you’re often left piecing things together (or told to wait until next semester).

The Refresher Program is built into the academic experience, not treated as an afterthought. It protects the pace of regular classes for students who started on time, while giving late starters a clear, supported entry point that doesn’t rely on guesswork or silent catching-up at home.

- If you already hold an offer, accept it and your campus will automatically invite you to the next Refresher Program.
- If you’re still applying or deciding, speak with Admissions about starting in Week 2 or 3.
