The Pro AV industry is one of the most exciting and overlooked career paths for audio-trained graduates. While it doesn’t get the attention of live gigs or studio work, it’s at the centre of how we learn, work, and communicate in the modern world. And the demand for talent is huge.
Graduate Spotlight: Matthew Stapleton
Matthew Stapleton, JMC Audio graduate (2012), is now the Q-SYS Technical Specialist and Product Trainer at Technical Audio Group (TAG), one of the leaders in Australia’s AV industry.
His role focuses on programming and training corporate and educational AV systems. With deep industry connections, Matt sees firsthand where the opportunities are growing: in skilled Pro AV professionals who can bridge the worlds of IT and audio.
Like many in Pro AV, Matt started with a passion for audio. His grounding in microphones, mixing, and electronics gave him a strong foundation to step into digital system integration, proving how valuable audio skills are in this sector.
Industry Voice: Nick Orsatti
It’s not just alumni sounding the call. Nick Orsatti, Director at Fredon Technology and part of an industry working group, is working to attract more young professionals into Pro AV.
“Yes, this is an industry with an identity crisis, but rest assured, people make meaningful careers and support their aspirations, their dreams and secure their futures within an exciting, fast-paced, and growing industry.”
Nick’s perspective reinforces a key point: Pro AV is not about “roadies” or live event work. It’s about systems integration, designing and installing AV infrastructure that makes schools, workplaces, and public spaces function every day.
