Last night, 19-year-old JMC Sydney Bachelor of Music student Alyssa Delpopolo soared through the lights, the cameras and the adoring audience to emerge as winner of The Voice Australia Season 14! Her victory isn’t just a personal triumph, but a massive win for JMC’s creative community. For us, it’s a sign that our institution’s pulse is beating in rhythm with the future of Australian music.
From the audience to the spotlight
Alyssa’s story to The Voice stage is straight out of a movie. While attending a live filming of the show, she caught the attention of acclaimed Australian artist Kate Miller-Heidke, who personally invited her to audition (when Kate asks you can’t say no!). That spontaneous opportunity turned into a season-long journey, where Alyssa’s insane vocal skills and quiet determination carried her all the way to the finale.
Her final performances, a soaring rendition of Céline Dion’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now and a heartfelt duet with Kate on Lose You to Love Me, showcased both her technical skill and artistic depth.
Flying the flag for homegrown mentorship
In the show’s first-ever all-female grand finale, Alyssa stood out not just as a rising star, but as the only finalist to be mentored by an Australian artist. Her partnership with Kate Miller-Heidke became one of the season’s highlights. A collaboration built on mutual respect, creativity and a shared belief in the power of Australian artistry.
Together, they represented what local mentorship can do for emerging talent: nurturing individuality while preparing artists for a global stage.
A proud moment for JMC
For the JMC community, Alyssa’s win is a huge source of pride. As a student studying the Bachelor of Music with Major in Contemporary Performance, she’s already made her mark, from performing at campus events to singing the national anthem at JMC’s Sydney’s most recent graduation ceremony. Seeing her bring that same professionalism and joy to a national audience has been inspiring for staff, students and alumni alike.
Her journey reflects JMC’s ethos perfectly: learn by doing, create with purpose, and be ready when opportunity strikes. Alyssa’s story is proof that when training meets timing, big things can happen!
"We’re incredibly proud of Alyssa and her remarkable achievement in winning The Voice" says JMC Sydney's Head of Music, Kemo Bunguric. "Her talent, dedication, and artistry are an inspiration to everyone at JMC. Watching her journey from the classroom to the national stage has been a privilege, and this win is a testament to her hard work and passion for music."
What’s next
With $100,000 in prize money, a recording development package and national recognition under her belt, Alyssa is stepping into an exciting new chapter of her music career. Whether it’s releasing original music, collaborating with Australian producers, or taking her artistry across the globe, one thing’s for sure: this is just the beginning.
For current JMC students, Alyssa’s win is a reminder that success isn’t always about luck, but about showing up, honing your craft, and being open to where your talent can take you.
Congratulations, Alyssa
From everyone at JMC Academy: congratulations to Alyssa Delpopolo and her coach Kate Miller-Heidke on this incredible achievement! You’ve made JMC, and the Australian music community, immensely proud!
