Our Mocktail Film Awards, Canvas Art Award, Songwriting Competition and Monologue Competitions are here for 2024 and are exclusively for students across NSW, VIC and QLD in years 9-12. 

With the April holidays hot on our doorstep, now is the perfect time to create that piece of artwork or perform that soliloquy you’ve been dreaming about! Here’s what we have on offer:

Mocktail Film Awards

The 2024 Mocktail Film Awards is open to all New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland-based high school students who have completed a short film. We invite high school students to submit their short films and go into the running to win a film equipment starter pack!

Submit your best short fiction, short documentary, short animation, television commercial or music video clip, which industry professionals will review. You can check out the 2023 winners here.

Our experienced judges are looking for originality, emotional impact, performance, direction and low-budget initiative.

Canvas Art Award 

We’re stoked to be running our popular Canvas Award Art Competition again for 2024, showcasing the incredible work of young artists and designers from all around NSW, VIC and QLD who are taking their creativity to the next level. This year’s winner will receive a Wacom One Creative Pen Display!

The Challenge: Creatively interpret the below into an illustrative scene: 

"A creature in its native environment" 

Entrants must Include:  A Rubber Duck somewhere in your scenes

JMC Songwriting Competition

Win the opportunity to work with JMC Academy staff to record, mix and master your own original song valued at $2,500!

To enter? Submit a demo of an original song (written individually or as a team) and the lyrics to the song in written form.

The demo can simply be recorded on a phone (we just want to hear the song performed!) and only include the vocals, however, instrumental accompaniment is encouraged. You're welcome to record the demo in other ways too if you have the means!

Submissions for the 2024 Songwriting Competition close on Saturday 31st August 2024 11:59 pm AEST. Last year, recent Cairns State High School graduate and singer Grace Jones smashed it out of the park with her song 'To Give'. See her performing live below!

JMC Monologue Competition 

 

Submit a creative and entertaining delivery of a monologue of their choice to win a professional show reel recording and season tickets to your state theatre company's 2025 season!

You have total creative freedom to deliver this monologue in whatever way you see fit - comedy, drama, musical - go all out! Think about costumes, sets, props and locations to add a bit of flair to their performance. 

 

Enter 2 self-tapes to try out a few styles and monologues. You can record on your phone (or any other camera on-hand!)- try to get the best quality possible, so our judges can hear and see you!
