Internships are the perfect opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience and learn how the industry really operates. At JMC we have a dedicated Internship Program which provides students the opportunity to work in real-life industry roles at reputable organisations during their course.

Undertaken as a credited course unit, you’ll be given the time to gain invaluable experience in your chosen field and make new contacts - all while gaining credits from the experience. Our Internship Program to date has successfully also led to paid freelance opportunities and to career progression post-graduation.

Dr Marisol Alonso-Vazquez
Head of Department, Melbourne + Brisbane

"Marisol is a social and market researcher in the fields of Marketing and Management within the entertainment businesses scope. After completing her doctoral candidature in business management at UQ, Marisol has been contributing to the music festival industry through her research since 2011. She has been in contact with high calibre managers from Splendour in the Grass, Woodford Music Festival, Island Vibe Festival, Peats Ridge Sustainable Music & Arts Festival, WOMADelaide, Cygnet Folk Music Festival among others. Her research contribution relays on understanding visitors’ on-site behaviours to create memorable experiences at music festivals and foster on-site responsible behaviours.

Before her PhD journey, Marisol worked at multinational companies such as GE, IBM SPSS Statistics as well as for governmental institutions like the Economic Development Ministry and the Mexican Trade commission in Spain. All of these jobs were marketing related and gave her the opportunity to learn how to create meaningful content that was supported with data. She has worked as an independent research contractor, senior research officer and research assistant at UQ, Griffith University and UNSW.

Marisol conducts research in collaboration with lead researchers from the University of Southern California, Aalborg Universitet and UC Berkeley. Marisol’s most recent publications are linked to entrepreneurship, text sentiment analysis as well as behavioural change in organisations and individuals within the context of entertainment businesses. Among other things, she acts as a reviewer in leisure peer-reviewed Academic Journals.  Her most recent international recognition was due to her high quality teaching performance by the Higher Education Academy based in UK.

Dan Koop
Entertainment Business Lecturer

"Dan Koop is a Producer, Facilitator and Artist working with local communities and public spaces to create work that engages audiences to become participants. 

Dan was the Creative Program Producer for the 2015, 2016 & 2017 Melbourne Fringe Festivals. At Fringe Dan produced the Made By Fringe program and facilitated the Artist Development Programs for emerging artists, including Deadly Fringe (with ILBIJERRI Theatre Co & Wilin Centre) and the Forest Exchange Lab (with The SUBSTATION). 

Further Melbourne Fringe commissions include Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey’s Pivot (2017), a live art conversation kick-starter in the form of six talking seesaws at Fed Square, and Robin Fox’s Sky Light (2016), a city-scale sculpture and sound installation in the City of Melbourne using 16 lasers and more than 50 CBD buildings. Co-presentations include Congress by All The Queens Men (Darebin Arts 2017), The Children’s Party by Ben Landau and Alex Walker (2017 Arts House) and Kids vs Art by Field Theory (2016 Arts House). Dan has previously worked at Sydney Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse and BAC (UK).

As an Artist, Dan has created collaborative works in Hotel Obscura (2016 FOLA), Going Nowhere (2014 Arts House) and the Greenroom Award winning The Stream / The Boat / The Shore / The Bridge (2012 Next Wave)."

Jonathan Homsey
Entertainment Business Lecturer

Jonathan Homsey is an arts maker and manager interested in the intersection of street dance, visual art and social engagement. Born in Hong Kong and raised in the United States of America, he immigrated to Australia in 2010 where he is a graduate of Victorian College of the Arts (BA Dance) and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (MA Arts Management with Distinction). His choreographic practice has evolved from a theatrical context with works such as the award winning Together As One (Arts House, Melbourne Fringe 2013) to a interdisciplinary practice in galleries and public spaces from Seventh Gallery (Melbourne) to 107 Projects (Sydney) and Design Festa Gallery (Tokyo). 

Jonathan’s diverse passions has led him to create and manage work from street dance and conceptual art such as Circus Oz to national tours for Australian pop star George Maple. As a producer, he is passionate about social engagement working on events such as Melbourne Music Week 2016 , 2017 Australian Dance Awards, Australian Youth Dance Festival and Dance Massive (during his time at Australian Dance Council New South Wales and Victoria’s Arts Media and Marketing Officer from 2016-2018). He has been rewarded for his producing across Australasia from Melbourne Fringe and University of Auckland. 

In addition, Jonathan is passionate about community outreach through dance collectives. He has had the pleasure to dance with Beatphonik and be a co-founder of the groups Sole Symphony Movement, and Menagerie Dance Co-operative. He has currently created Jazz Club!, an online virtual reality dance crew advocating for human rights, with 100% of it funds donated to Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. His most recent work Mx.Red amalgamates all his passions for social engagement and conceptual art with the creation of 14 art installations as part of the Festival of Live Art at Footscray Community Arts Centre.

Marc Gracie
Entertainment Business Lecturer

"Marc has been working in the Victorian Entertainment and Arts industries for more than twenty years. He is a prolific Film and Television Producer/Director, who has managed major theatre and film production, business, education and festival ventures working in partnership with both the government and the private sector.

Marc’s film credits include; The Craic starring Jimeoin. Take Away starring Vince Colosimo, Stephen Curry and Rose Bryne and Spin Out starring Xavier Samuel. 

Television credits include: Full Frontal & The Adventures of Lano and Woodley.

Awards include:

Pat Maloney
Head of Department (Sydney)

Masters of Recrording Arts(MRA) Macquarie University

"Pat has over 30 years experience in the Entertainment Industry. As Founder and CEO (10 years) of Musicoz Australia, he became known as the Godfather of Independent Music in Australia. This enabled Pat to play a major role in developing the careers of many successful artists including ARIA winners: Bliss n Eso and Monsier Camembert as well as BlueJuice, Cog, The Jezabels, Art vs Science, Sender, Porcelain, King Farook, Morgan Evans (Solver), Dead Letter Circus, Blue King Brown, and Sick Puppies as well as Golden Guitar winners Felicity Urquhart, Mark O'Shea, Jetty Road, Carter & Carter, Amber Lawrence and Victoria Baillie.

Pat has also been Production Manager for two commercial radio stations and has produced both major live events at venues such as The Enmore theatre and Entertainment Centre and also music TV specials for the Nine, SBS, MTV, Channel [V], WIN, NBN, Television Networks. He is an ARIA Awards judge as well as an A&R and Artist Development Specialist. Pat also has extensive experience in Marketing, Sponsorship and Event Management.

Richard Cartwright
Entertainment Business Lecturer

35 year entertainment industry veteran, Richard commenced his career at Festival Records in 1980 as a Public Relations and Promotions representative responsible for promoting and publicising roster artists at radio, television and press. Roles included designing and implementing artist product release and tour campaigns as well as artist liaison, developing relationships with media, management, agents and promoters. Richard has been at the forefront of the music industry and worked at both major and independent labels, locally and internationally, with many artists including: Divynls, Michael Hutchence (INXS), Split Enz, U2, Freddie Mercury (Queen), Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Motley Crue and many more.
Richard is vastly experienced in all facets of the music recording industry, a respected entertainment industry lecturer since 2008, passionate and committed to education, specialising in Marketing and Promotions, Business Management, Copyright and Publishing, Public Speaking, Media Training and Communications. An entertainment industry professional, consultant, published author, screenwriter and producer, working in film and television, currently developing commercial projects.

Simone Parrott

With extensive experience most recently as an Event & Theatrical Producer, Executive Producer, Associate Producer, General Manager, Arts Administrator, Production Coordinator, Venue Manager and Tour Manager, Simone has worked across all facets of special & tourism events and live performance and for more than 20 years. 

Her credits span fundraising and special events, musical theatre, concert presentations and theatrical productions and include The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Rent, Singin in the Rain, Oliver!, Cabaret, Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the XXVII Olympiad, Jamie Oliver ‘Live’ Happy Days Tour, Renee Fleming in Recital, Jose Carreras in Concert, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, Priscilla Queen of the Desert - the Musical, Helpmann Awards, An Audience With Stephen Sondheim, Tina Arena In Concert, Breast Wishes – An Uplifting Musical, Parky The One-Man Show, The Motown Event and Parky & Frost. 

Simone is the former Chair and Board Member of Hayes Theatre Co and develops education resource kits for musical theatre works and special events as well as course curriculum to train and lecture in Event, Venue and Entertainment Management. Simone currently lecturers at JMC Academy, teaching domestic and international touring.

Ed Gresack
Entertainment Business Lecturer

Ed was born and raised in New York City, where he started his career in the music industry working as a musician, live sound engineer and tech. He went on to serve as Coordinator of Audio Operations for Sony Music Studios in New York.  After touring in the U.S. and Australia, Ed has served as the Production Manager of BIGSOUND organised by QMusic since 2009. Besides teaching at JMC Academy, he is currently the Production Manager for The Foundry and works for the majority of the most iconic Australian Music Festivals, including Bluesfest, Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, Jungle Love and Tamworth.

Loic Valmy
Entertainment Business Lecturer

Loic has worked for the various sectors of the Entertainment Industry his whole life. He’s started his career as a professional singer and performer when he was 6 years old. Then, he entered the Musical Theatre and performed on the most prestigious stages of Paris to finally become a director and music producer at 21. He worked for 10 years as an artistic director for the major labels such as Universal, Sony and EMI; he composed movie scores for the TV and film industry. In 1999, he opened his own booking agency in Paris. Now in Australia, when he's not teaching at JMC, Loic runs his own Theatre Academy and Production company.

Mike Cotton-Stapleton

At the end of 2016, Mike launched MCSM - A boutique theatrical agency, in Sydney, representing professional Actors across Film, TV & Theatre. The company has grown at an exponential rate and since opening has forged affiliates in the UK, Canada and the USA. MCSM launched a Voice-Over dept. in 2018 and, as of March 2019, opened up a branch in Melbourne. In total, MCSM represents around 60 Actors and that number is continuing to grow.

Jason Endfield

Jason started his career post-graduation in California, working as an assistant to the head of one of the world's top talent management companies - United Entertainment, which represents talent such as Ashton Kutcher, Madonna and Naomi Watts. Jason is now located in Japan where he owns and runs his own consulting company, Maverick and Endfield Management and Consulting.

 

Casey O’Shaughnessy

is the senior booking agent at Select Music, Australia’s largest independent agency. She represents a roster of Australian and NZ artists that includes Amy Shark, The Veronicas, Skegss, Ruby Fields, Kian, Stella Donnelly, The Beths, The Chats and many others as well as having worked day-to-day logistics on acts such as Ball Park Music, Tkay Maidza, DZ Deathrays & The Jungle Giants. She is passionate about creating safe spaces for her artists and their audiences and building some of Australia’s most successful artists across all genres, ranging from acts right at the beginning of their careers to multi-platinum, festival headlining & ARIA award winning major acts.
