2022 Mixtapes Competition Terms & Conditions 

  1. Promoter 

The promoter of the ‘Remix ‘Competition is JMC Academy.  

  1. Conditions of entry 

(a) Participants must be Australian citizens (proof of citizenship may be required). (b) Participants must be high school students studying in either year 10, 11 or 12. 

(c) Participants must be under the age of 19 and must provide details of their current High School and Music Teacher.  

(d) Participation is restricted to individuals; no legal/commercial entities may participate.  

(e) Each participant may submit only one remix entry.  

(f) The remix entry should have a duration of 6 minutes maximum and incorporate the provided original track.  

(g) No style restrictions apply for the choice of musical aesthetics by the contestant.  

(h) Entries must be accompanied by a 50 – 100 word description of the work.  

  1. Participants’ right to use the recordings 

JMC Academy grants competition participants the right to adapt or rearrange the sound recording of ARTIST’S (TRACK NAME) solely for the purposes of creating a remix to be submitted as a competition entry. Participants may not use or exploit the sound recording outside of the competition without the consent of JMC Academy. JMC Academy hold the necessary rights, clearance and/or permissions to all samples provided for the purpose of this competition 

  1. Assignment of rights to JMC Academy

(a) In consenting to the terms and conditions of the competition, each participant in the competition assigns the exclusive license to JMC Academy in relation to the remix of the following exclusive worldwide rights of use:  

(i) the right of reproduction and distribution, in other words, the right to reproduce the remix in any form and to distribute it in any manner whatsoever; (ii) the right to make the remix or parts thereof available to the public in any known or yet unknown form;  

(iii) the right of adaptation, in other words, the right to adapt or otherwise rearrange the remix and the right to exploit an adaptation or rearrangement of the remix.  

(b) The competition entrant declares that he/she is owner of all necessary rights in connection with the remix and agrees in the event of any claim being brought against JMC Academy to indemnify the institution regarding any damages payable or any costs of any legal proceedings including the costs of mounting an appropriate legal defence.  

(c) Entrants acknowledge that JMC Academy will have the rights to use their entry for marketing purposes across our digital channels and those of JMC Academy.

  1. Entry period 

Entries will be accepted until Monday 31 October 2022 11:59pm AEST

  1. Jury and prizes 
  • Entries will be assessed by a panel of JMC Academy staff. 
  • Selection criteria will include 1) composition, 2) production, 3) creative use of material. 
  • Judges’ decisions are final, no further correspondence will be entered into. 

(b) Winners will be announced on the JMC Academy website and winners will be notified (c) Winners agree to the publication of their name and photograph on JMC Academy website.  

Prizes  

Major prize:  

  • $500 Manny's Gift Voucher  
  • 12-month Digital subscription to Sound on Sound (£33.00) 
  • JMC Workshop for your school (12 students)  

(a) If a prize winner does not respond to organizers within ten working days of the date of notification, and or and cannot be contacted, the prize will be awarded to the next best placed entrant.  

(b) Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.  

(c) Prizes will be sent by courier to an Australian address, appropriately insured and require signed proof of receipt.  

  1. Exclusions 

(a) Remixes with content that discriminates against minorities or contain pornographic and violent content will be excluded from the competition.  

(b) Persons employed by the JMC Academy may not enter.  

  1. Amendment to the terms and conditions of the competition 

JMC Academy reserves the right to amend and modify the terms and conditions of the competition at any time.  

  1. Applicable law 

This agreement is governed exclusively by Australian Law.
