LA Film School Trip Review 2106

A selection of JMC Academy students from a variety of courses headed off to Los Angeles for two weeks this September 2016 for the LA Film School Trip!

The trip to Los Angeles and the LA Film School was a richly rewarding experience for 30 students across 3 campuses and multiple disciplines. In week 1 students audited an array of classes in their specific disciplines and also engaged with a 4 day program entitled ‘Art of the Pitch’. In Week 2, students were provided with a whirlwind tour of Hollywood – including all the major studios (Sony, Paramount, Warners, Disney  and Universal / NBC). The trip enabled students to receive first hand access to the life pulse of doing business and pitching projects in Hollywood, fraternise with an array of Hollywood contacts, and tap in to further post-graduate opportunities abroad

“What I enjoyed most was the ability to achieve a meeting with someone within the film restoration business. Within the first week I had attained communications with Keith Vidger and Grover Crisp who work at Sony Pictures. I attended the meeting at Sony Pictures Studios on the 23rd of Sept. with Grover's stand-in Michael Friend and now have a clearer idea with what I want to do, and how to get there.” - Michael Francis

“This trip has been so motivating, if anything. The skills and experiences gained throughout this trip will serve me well and have deepened my understanding of the film and business disciplines. I have better learnt how to present myself in the industry and it has helped me to realise where in the wide field of audio my interest actually lies.

All the people I met in LA, even the strangers I met on the street were all extremely friendly, polite, and helpful, although food portions tended to be a lot larger than home! LA was a wonderful place to visit.” - Jordan Reynolds

“We look forward to see many future success stories both in Australia and abroad, as these students channel these acquired skills into industry.” – Peter George

“The LA Film School trip was a trip of a lifetime! I made so many friends, connections, learnt so much about myself and the career path I want to follow. After my editing class I took at LA Film School, it has confirmed my passion for editing and the career I want to take. Also the hike to the Hollywood sign was pretty awesome!” Remii Luciani
