JMC Student in Focus: Ethan Conway

JMC current student Ethan Conway has recently had some great opportunities cross his path while studying here, so we caught up with him to get the insights behind how a musicians mind works..

Who are your biggest inspirations and why?
Musically, any artist who is pushing the boundary of music in their respective genres. I really like Allen Stone, Sam Smith and Pentatonix for that reason.

What’s your party trick?
Probably singing but a lot of people can do that XD

If you could sing with one superstar, who would it be?
I’d have to say Allen Stone

How do you deal with your nerves before a performance?
Its really all about practice, having that exposure therapy really helps in combating nerves on stage

Have you ever had any celeb crushes?
Not any major ones but there are a lot of beautiful people in the Music industry

What’s your favourite ever song?
My Favourite song changes about every 2 weeks! I love finding new artists and songs so it changes quite frequently, at the moment it is Weight in Gold by Gallant.

Is anyone else in your family musical?
Actually nobody in my family is musical. They all love listening to music like everyone else but none have really tried to make music.

What food would you put on your rider list for backstage cravings?
You can’t go wrong with a nice steak! :D

If you were stranded on a desert island, which 3 items would you take with you?
A Guitar, an iPod with a tonne of music on it and maybe something to chop open coconuts haha

What made you choose JMC Academy?
I attended an open day when I was in year 12 and loved the place, everyone was super friendly, the campus looked brand new and it just had a really good vibe about the whole place.

What is your favourite part of the course at JMC academy?
Either performing live at venues in Sydney or meeting other amazing musicians that also attend JMC

Where do you hope to be in 5 years time?
Hopefully making music for anyone who wants to hear it. Playing shows wherever I can. Whether that be in Sydney, around Australia or around the world.

What advice do you have for other JMC Academy students hoping to break into the music industry?
Find your own passion, work hard at it. Take advantage of any and every opportunity you get. And make the most of the time you have.
