JMC Academy’s Director of Education Dr Adrian Bennett recently returned from a four-city lecture tour of China.
The tour included Beijing, Dalian, Xi’an and Zhongshan City, which is a manufacturing hub for games and entertainment products. During the tour Adrian presented to over 1700 people, including many key industry practitioners, government officers, education leaders and digital technology students. The keen audiences gave Adrian rock star treatment as he signed autographs and posed for photos at the end of each lecture.
The lectures covered a range of topics, including creativity and design, new product development and the future of education in the digital technology space.
This is Adrian's account of the tour:
"I’ve dubbed my recent tour to China as the ‘Rock-and-Roll’ tour. I’m sure that our JMC Academy music lecturers are used to this kind of treatment, but for a simple lecturer like me it was a taste of the rock lifestyle.
We had great audiences, packed like sardines in awesome venues in every city, with t-shirt signings and literally hundreds of selfies after the talks. We have since had over a million hits online for the follow-up Beijing video of the presentations. That was overwhelming, both for me and for Patrick Pennefather, my co-lecturer from The Centre for Digital Media in Vancouver and his colleague Bill Zhao.
All this was coupled with incredible hospitality from our hosts as we travelled across China - from the country’s capital Beijing, to spectacular seaside city Dalian, on to Xi’an the remarkable ancient capital and finally to Zongshan, an up-and-coming gamer city centred on game-IT.
Thanks Crystal Education for taking a little bit of JMC (me) across the seas to experience your institution and the places and people who contribute to making it so successful."
