Multi Grammy Award winning artist Professor Eugene Friesen is one of America's most innovative and versatile cellists. He deploys the cello in a wide variety of non-classical settings and has created new techniques to expand its role as a solo and accompanying instrument. He is Professor of Music at Berklee College of Music in Boston and has won four Grammy Awards to date, most notably for his work with the famous world music ensemble The Paul Winter Consort of which he is a long time member. He is a pioneer in the teaching of improvisation, leading workshops throughout North America and around the world. Aside from his work with the Paul Winter Consort, Friesen also has an extensive discography as leader and sideman on many projects, including his ‘Trio Globo’ with pianist/harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy and percussionist Glen Velez.
