Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria and Australia's second largest city. The city of Melbourne, with a population in excess of 3.5 million, is a major metropolitan city which prides itself on its sports, major events, shopping, dining, cultural diversity and excellence in arts.

One quarter of Melbourne's population was born overseas, making it one of the world's most multicultural cities. There are now people from 140 nations living harmoniously together. This broad ethnic mix has brought many benefits to the city, including a wide range of cuisine and over 2,300 exceptional restaurants, bistros and cafes.

Situated on the Yarra River and around Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne city provides the perfect meandering backdrop for galleries, museums, parks, gardens, sports and scenic venues.

The city of Melbourne hosts a variety of art, food, fashion and flower and sporting festivals. The latter of which includes the Australian Grand Prix and the Australian Tennis Open, making it one of Australia's top tourist destinations.

Melbourne is considered to be the shopping capital of Australia and offers some of Australia's biggest shopping complexes, as well as sophisticated exclusive boutiques and a host of lively and popular markets.

In l994 the Population Growth Council (Washington DC) acclaimed Melbourne as "the world's most liveable city". Melbourne is also considered Australia's premier university and education city and is an ideal place to study.

Attracted by Melbourne’s lifestyle, urban landscapes and closeness to regional settings, movie and feature film productions in Victoria have recently contributed over $200 million to the economy with films such as Columbia’s ‘Ghost Rider’, Paramount’s ‘Charlottes Webb’ and Spielberg’s ‘The Pacific’ named by Film Victoria as some of Melbourne’s most expensive film productions ever.
