International Student Information

Welcome

JMC Academy welcomes students from over 30 representative nations around the world. International students bring global perspective and unique experience to both lecturers and local students alike. They truly provide an invaluable academic and social contribution to JMC Academy life!

We encourage international students to become an integral part of JMC Academy and, as such, encourage them to be involved in all aspects of JMC Academy student life. After reading the international student information below, we also encourage you to download our international brochure here and to read more about our courses, accommodation and campus location information.

Let us know if you need further information not covered in these sections and we will be more than happy to help.

Meeting English Language Requirements

The JMC Academy recognises IELTS, TOEFL and Pearson English Test scores taken within two years prior to commencement of studies. For a list of scores please download our English Language Requirements document below.

The JMC Academy recognises various Australian ELICOS providers’ Academic English courses. Applicants who have successfully completed one of JMC Academy’s Direct Entry Pathway Partner’s English for Academic Purposes (or equivalent) courses to the required standard will be considered eligible without having to take an official language test. Other Australian pre-academic courses will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please refer to our English Language Requirements document for a list of Direct Entry Pathway Partners.

SCHOOL-AGED DEPENDANTS

Any school-aged dependants accompanying students to Australia may be required to pay full fees if they are enrolled in either a government or non-government school.

Further information on welfare and accommodation arrangements for overseas students under the age of 18 can be downloaded here.

Student Visas

Whilst JMC Academy staff are able to provide limited guidance regarding student visa information, we strongly suggest all international applicants contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship prior to enrolment for visa eligibility requirements.

Auditions

Popular Music and Performance applicants must undertake an audition. The audition requires students to perform two contrasting pieces of music of their own choice. The two pieces should not exceed ten minutes. For applicants living overseas or interstate audition videos may be submitted. Applicants should face the camera and be accompanied by a backing track or accompanist. Videos can be submitted by disc, online video sharing site (eg. youtube.com) or FTP link.

Recognition of Prior Learning

  • Students may be given recognition of prior learning (RPL) or recognition of skills gained in similar courses.
  • If you believe that you should be granted RPL for any module of your course, please advise the Academy at the time of your interview.
  • The Academy requires all academic transcripts from the student’s previous institution as well as a course breakdown of all previous studies.
  • Fees may apply for RPL assessment.

You may download an application form for RPL below.
