Welcome to the Creative Industries
The Creative Industries is one of the world’s fastest growing economic sectors. It is currently worth more than $3 trillion worldwide, generating approximately $11 billion to Australia’s annual gross domestic product. It encompasses the areas of multimedia development, dance, drama, fashion, music, theatre, film and television, writing and publishing, and the media.
The term 'Creative Industries' is fairly new to the Australian market. It recognises the increasing importance of creativity in the production and differentiation of many lifestyle and leisure driven goods and services, as demanded by a growing technologically sophisticated global consumer population. This has had a direct impact on the need for highly intellectual, creative, innovative and technologically skilled content creators.
The term ‘Creative Industries’ also recognises the importance of not only the creators or artists at the forefront of the creative process but the significance of a host of interconnected networks such as producers, distributors, promoters and buyers which also influence the final outcome of the process. It is not without coincidence that the JMC Academy has structured its courses and teaching techniques to cater for this relationship.
